Set up web site

What does it take to run your own web site or two of them from your home computer?
I now have a Pentium 11 400 and a laptop pentium 111 plus a wireless network link between the two. Image

Wally,

It doesn't matter what kind of computer you have. I use a hosting company (http://www.readyhosting.com) Basically, they have a bunch of Web Servers. For $100/year you "rent" space on their servers. For that fee, they give you a domain name (in my case, they registered darkmagneto.com for myself) and then they give you unlimited email addresses. (for example; john@darkmagneto.com or sue@darkmagneto.com) As long as you know a little about HTML and building web pages, you can get a web site going.

If ANYONE is interested in website stuff I highly recommend going to http://www.w3schools.com This is the company that sets up the regulations for the WWW and they have FREE online tutorials. This is how I start learning about different web languages. It is a great tool/website to keep bookmarked.

Mark

The main requirement is a high-speed permanent web connection with a "static IP address". Most internet service providers give you a new IP address every time you connect. You can't run a web server from that. You have to have an IP address that doesn't change.
