Peavey? JBL? EV?

The title of this post meant to say "Who makes a good......."

Thanks, Dave Z<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Dave Zirbel on 23 September 2004 at 08:50 AM.]</p></FONT>

Dave, the Peavey 1203-4 ohm Black Widow was designed for our Nashville 112E speaker cabinets that we manufactured in the late 1990's. Unfortunately, we did not sell great quantities of the Nashville 112E after our customers requested it. Oh well.

Anyway, the complete 1203-4 BW can be purchased through your local authorized Peavey dealer. The item number is #0021100 and the U.S.MSRP is $149.99. Hope that this helps.

Thanks Mike. How many pounds would the new 112 amp be with a BW? I'm looking to lighten the load a bit but the speaker in that amp doesn't work for me. Nothing personal, I like Peavey products.

Dave, the 1203 BW's are outstanding speakers. After always using 15 inch speakers in the past, I tried a set of these. I am sold on them. They have plenty of low end response and the mids and highs are exceptional. They weigh in at 16 lbs and only slighly lighter than the 1501's. However, they are lighter than the JBL 120's I have.

Mike, do the new 1203-4's have an aluminum dustcap? I have an older one and it's one of the best sounding steel speakers I've ever heard. The metal dustcap is part of the steel speaker sound.

Brad, I'm afraid that the only BW that we manufacture at this time that has an aluminum dust cap is the 1501-4 BW SB. Sorry.

The difference in weight between the 1203-4 BW and the Nashville 112 stock Blue Marvel is approximately 5 lbs..

Hope that this helps.

To echo what's been said, the 1203-4 is the one. EV speakers, to my ears, are mid-rangey, good for guitars, not good for steels. JBL s don't have the bottom, in a regular cabinet. (I have a '62 piggy-back Standel with the large bass reflex cabinet that the JBL sounds good in and an Altec 417 sounds better in). My current favorite is an Ampeg Super Echo Twin, 1962, with a 1203 and a 417.

The PV 1203-4 is a super choice for Steelguitar. I have one in my Webb 614E and I much prefer it to any 15 inch speaker and I have tried them all....IP

The obvious question: has anyone tried a Fender Twin Reverb with these Peavey 12" speakers? Should be a thumbs-up, right?

EDIT: Oh wait, they're 4 ohm, right? Sorry, impedance mismatch. Oooops!

Herb, that's ok because the 1203 was also made in an 8 ohm version. I am actually running these speakers in my Webb and extension. I took out the JBL's for being a bit too brite.
