Neo-Bluegrass Pedal Steel Instrumental

Post by Gary Peters »

Hi

While working on my eagerly-awaited (by my Mum) 'Protest' album, I spun-off a nice little instrumental from one of the backing tracks. Some nice old-time country steel pickin' for those into that kind of thing.

Enjoy!

And don't forget to protest (about anything).

I enjoyed it. Thanks!

Did you play the other instruments?

Thanks James...and, yes I did. I'm the only person I can get to play with me.

I like it. For me, it has a Grateful Dead vibe ala "Sugar Magnolia" from the "American Beauty" album.

Thanks Karlis. I hadn't thought of that (actually I don't really think of anything very much). I have that album though, so will have another listen...I haven't played it for a while.

Yeah, I was hearing a Jerry vibe as well. It's actually the first thing I thought of, but from what I've seen in this forum, that could be construed as an insult or a compliment so I didn't feel like typing the details that I am now.

I mean it as a compliment.

Great to get all of this feedback guys! And to think I was tempted to take down the post yesterday because I'd come to the realization that it was rubbish! OK, I was in a bad mood yesterday.

It's good, man. Thanks for leaving it up!

I'm surprised more bluegrass bands don't have a PSG 'guest' with them. It works well. I've done it -- once -- to good reviews, but I think being a "guy that needs electricity" makes you an outcast in the 'purist' world of bluegrass. Like the dude with buttons on his shirt and a power drill at the Amish barn-raising.

Within the strict context of Amish barn-raising, even I'm beginning to warm to this track now...so thanks for that Tucker! Although, for the record, I must confess I have no buttons on my shirt.

Some musicians have told me before that I reminded them of Jerry in his early days...I immediately ran home and worked on my intonation till the early hours... until I found out they had posters of him on their walls and it was their way of saying nice things to a pedal steel player.

Sounds great Gary.
