Spider was a friend of mine also. I met him in the late 1980s when he was with Gene Warren. I was just getting starting on steel. He came to my house in Georgia and was eager to share his wealth of information about steel guitar.I bought a Sierra S10 from him and he took me to Scotty's convention for the first time. He was a kind man and will be missed.

Truly sorry to hear this sad news. I had known Spider for @ 30 years, visited his shop thru the years, was impressed with his ability to play 'thumb style picking' on the steel. He coincidentally sold me a pair of new "Webb" Amps back in the day.
Spider was always one to say hello and how y'doin - even if his own health was somewhat questionable.
My sincerest sympathies to his family.
