Question For Smiley Roberts
I happen to run across an old video recently and in the video was Tommy Overstreet and his band. I am guessing this was done in the early seventies. Was that by some chance you playing for him in at this time. Tommy refered to the steel player by the name of Smiley. Anyway if you have any idea let me know,, there was also a video of Johnny Paycheck with only a steeler, bass guitar and drummer. The steel guitar player was awesome and sounded a lot like Seymour( If I spelled it wrong please forgive me). It was difficult to tell because the players all had very long hair and beards. Also there were cuts from the Grapvine Opry in Texas on this video.

I happened to come by this tape because I work in a flea market 2 days a week. Someone brought this tape in and several others for us to buy. At the time I didnt realize what it was until I brought it home to watch it. The title is Sweet Country Road, starring Buddy Knox, Kary Lynn, Gordie Tapp, Johnny Paycheck, Jeanne Pruett, Faron Young. Produced by Jack McCallum. Screenplay by Gordie Tapp It is a New World Video. Other than that information I would have no idea how to come by this video. It was sure interesting though!

Hey Doug,
Yeah, that was me alright. Our section of the movie was done at the Grapevine Opry,in Grapevine,Tx. The steeler w/ Paycheck was, most likely,Big Jim Murphy. I don't even have a copy of that one myself.

Thanks Smiley I thought I recognized you! Anyway some great picking was done by you and Big Jim. Sorry you dont have a copy of this one. I was just lucky to find this one myself. I will make sure the next time I see you I introduce myself to you. I am VP of KSGA. We are only about 7 months old and already are attracting many steelers in the Baxter Springs KS. area and several of them out of the area.

Sorry about the email thing. I thought I had changed it a while back when I changed servers. guitarman56@mobil1.net
This copy was pretty trashy, I dont know if it could be copied. If I could I wouldnt sell it, that is piracy. Email me and maybe we could make some arrangments for "borrowing" the tape.
