Is this true?

Post by clive swindell »

I recently managed to obtain a copy of the Rusty Young book from 1978 -'The Pedal Steel Handbook' and it makes mention of '...those who wear the diamond horseshoe ring, a tradition among steel players'

I have never heard that one before, is it true?

Do a search in the archives.

You should find lots of discussion.

Please be advised that several Forum members have mysteriously disappeared after revealing certain "secrets" that pertain to the wearing of such rings.

Diamond Horseshoe Ring? I never heard that one....I guess that's why I never amounted to much of anything! Image

....and also, if I wore a diamond horseshoe ring while playing, all the reasons that I've always given my wife for not wearing a wedding ring while playing would be null and void!

(The full "magic" of the diamond horse shoe ring isn't realized without the requisite pair of extra fingerpicks...dangling from a pullrod under the guitar.)

I always wear a Horseshoe–Ring when playing out of the home! Have done so for many years. Contrary to many believers, the proper way to wear the ring is with the open end towards the finger-tip, in order to 'catch' the good-luck, not to 'lose' it! The only difference in my ring is that I never acquired a liking for Diamonds, so; my ring contains 11 Amathist stones. My Birthstone!

John,
I wear mine with the ends pointing toward my wrist. Guess all the luck went to my head instead of my finger tips and that's why I can't play for ... BTW Jeff Newman in some of his videos also wears his the same, with the ends towards his wrist.
