Been There, Done That?
Someone calls you up to sub for a steel picker that is out of town for one night. It takes longer than you think to get there and you show up right when the band is getting ready to start. They tell you that it is alright to play the steel that is already set up on stage and ready to go. It turns out to be very nice looking Emmons. Do you go for it? I did last Saturday, and was very lucky. Every knee lever on the E9th was the same except for the F# to G's and the second string change had a half stop, which I do not have. I played all night on that steel and learned something. More bar movement is a good thing. The cool thing was that all of my Emmons flavored things sounded Emmons flavored. This type of situation will bring you down to earth. Have you been there and done that?

I subbed for a local guitar monster, Paul Herschman one time at the local truck stop.
He had Larry Behms old blue Sierra. I had tried to play it before and never did get it to play in tune.
I was only sitting in for one set, as Paul haad a late appt that evening. He said he'd pay me, but I didn't make a big deal of it..
Anyhow, it went OK and he showed up about 9:45.
He said thanks and asked if 40$ would be OK.
I looked at him in mock surprise and said " I was thinking mire like $400..." and busted out laughing.
I didn't take any money. It was just the kind of thing tht comes back around. It has..
