a thought for Gene Jones

Post by CrowBear Schmitt »

i'm sure many of you have noticed that Gene has'nt been around since "that incident".
i sure won't hold it against him for stickin' to his word but i would like him to know that i miss him 'round here and i doubt that i'm the only one that's feelin' this way.
i know many of us have different views and opinions concerning Politics or Religion but it hurts when i see good people get angry w: each other and mess up a Good Thang.
So how 'bout a thought and a few good words for Gene Jones ?

I have no idea what "incident" you are refering to Crowbear, but I can tell you this. They don't come any finer than Gene Jones. I am proud to have called him my friend for way over 40 years.

Yeah Gene where you been??
I have been really enjoying "Just For Me" I listen to it regularly in the car.

It would be a shame to lose a great guy like Gene here over "philisophical discusions" run amok.. if this is the incident CB has in mind.

To each his own and with kindness to all should be a forum ethic. And even the best of us sometimes slip up and hit post without thinking it ALL the way through in the heat of the moment.

I met Gene at the Texas show and enjoyed my brief visit with him. I did not realize anything was wrong. I sure miss reading his comments and I hope everything works out ok. I am sure Gene is a fine gentleman and player and I hope to see him commenting again on this forum....Paul

Hey Gene

I am loving that Fender T8 Custom. Something about that old sound. I have it running thru a tweed Blues Deluxe.

Making progress with the home studio. Read the books. What I want is a good listening/tracking/rehearsing room. Need about 25 to 40% acoustic treatment.

I put some acoustic diffusors on the sheetrock ceiling yesterday, and I can really tell the difference. Helps stop the bounce from hardwood floor to ceiling. Next will be a couple of bass traps, then some absorbing foam on about a third of the wall space.

Gene shared so many wonderful emails with me and brought me up to date on so many things that had been lacking in my musical collection. A first rate, #1, kind of friend anyone would be proud to have.
I hate to see him parting with all of his beloved musical instruments.

Greetings all.....my friend Carl West e-mailed me about this thread and I thought I'd better check it out and respond. It's true that I haven't monitored the Forum since "that incident" as Crowbear described it, but it has been only because I decided to take a few days off. When comments that usually "roll off my back" begin to elicit an angry response from me...it's time for a intermission. (I used to have to do that on my "day job" also....it's called a vacation)

Please give me some slack guys..it's just age creeping up on me! In my youth I was the guy who defended minority opinions on politics and religion, even long-hair on boys and mini-skirts on girls (I tried both but decided to ditch the miniskirt and keep the pony-tail) Image ....but now that I'm the "older generation" my tolerance has diminished and I find myself becoming more sensitive to criticism!

If there is any regret, it is that I probably put b0b in a difficult position. My only excuse is that I was trying to make a point that if anyone continues to make unsolicited comments about me or my beliefs, that I would make responsive comments.

To summarize....I just hope that we can go forward on this great Forum without anyone making derogatory comments about politics or religion...I promise that I will never make such a comment....except in self-defense if someone attacks me!

Thanks again guys....I love ya!

Gene. Glad to see you around. Sometimes I need a break from just about everything myself.

I imagine you got on the putt putt and took a nice long ride and generally chilled.

I have found you to be nothing short of a fine gentleman which is one of the reasons I got your CD.
Gentlemen can disagree and still be friends because they are not cruel to each other.
It's the nature of being a gentleman.
And since I have no disagreements with you, so much the better.

I was reviewing some of our old e-mails... and it just reinforced my original thoughts.
Glad your around again.

I saw a thread that was titled "Who plays steel on G. Jones recordings". My first thought was Gene of course!
Then I remembered Oh yeah George J.
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 08 May 2003 at 01:59 PM.]

Gene,
If push ever comes to shove, I'd be happy to come to your defense also. Your self description pretty much fits this left-handed Norwegian also!

These group hugs make me feel so warm.

Even at the tender young age of 49 359/365ths I can't seem to get my hand up to my mouth fast enough, and have the scars to prove it. Doesn't seem to matter how big they are unfortunately..

Same goes for the "send" button.

Now pass me the Smores, and point me toward the weenie sticks Image

My day job too is about to swamp me along with a 9 niter. It's all gonna hit at once.. Too bad my gigs and my job hasn't come out as good as my ride...

Glad too to see all the bikes on the forum, whatever the make.

It's sure a good way to blow the cobwebs out of a person's mind, and make one feel about 16 years old, if only for a while..

To put things in perspective, Gene, I remember reading the thread a bit ago but, for the life of me, have no recollection what it was about- such is the importance of "the small stuff"- which it all really is except family~~

My eight year old granddaughter Casey loves
Gene's steel playing. I refer to Gene as a
real cowboy. In fact I address him as "cowboy"

I might add, that in my opinion Roy Rogers,,, God Bless his soul, was not the only "King Of
The Cowboys". There is another right here in
our midst. The only difference? Roy had Trigger and Gene has a Harley. ImageGene has another granddaughter. Image

Jody, I had a horse but discovered that the DeSota was more comfortable and wasn't always looking for a place to lay down and die! Image

You wear your six shooters low on the hip,
thats the true sign of a "cowboy". Looks like
the James boys are up to no good pardner.

I have died many times on this Forum. You think this is easy? Image

Herb.....we were musicians at night, but our day job was "bounty hunters"!....it was a good part-time job and no one was brave enough to complain about the quality of our music!

Hey Gene with all the chicken wire in front of the band, why did you need all those pocket cannons?

Does your putt putt have a name?
I heard Trigger was taken.
