I'm not sure who in particular produced "Top of the World", but Herb Alpert produced their early stuff. Richard Carpenter produced and arranged the later stuff. Maybe, Jack Daugherty?

As I recall, "Top Of The World" was released as the "B" side of the single "I'll Say Goodbye To Love". The song caught on and when it was put on an album, it had a new steel track. Funny thing is that, IMO, while the new steel track had better licks and harmonics, and was a little slicker, it seemed to be less integrated with the sound, maybe less soulful, or whatever. I was used to the original from the single, so that may be why I feel that way. I wonder who played the steel, both on the original single, and the album?

I believe I'd heard it was one of Paul F's early recordings...
