The ACM has announced in advace their instramental award winners

Glenn Worf (bass),
Larry Franklin (fiddle), Lonnie Wilson (drums), Jay Dee Maness (steel
guitar), John Willis (guitar), Matt Rollings (keyboards) and Mark
Casstevens (specialty instruments).

It's about time someone took notice of this tremendous talent....Now it's time for some other noted institutions to really look at some of JD's qualifications.

I think JD has won this one a few times in the past, remember the ACM is on the west coast. But neverless, the man is fantastic and very deserving!!!! Congratulations JD!!!

Jaydee is a great steel player and I remember hearing him play in the Desert Rose Band in the late eighties. He's one of my favorite steel players. Congratulations, Jay Dee! Brett Day, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel

Congratulations! I frequently listen to the DRB greatest hits CD and you were such a significant part of the identity of that band. But of course you continue to move on to bigger and better things. Keep stylin'!

Jay Dee, the two times I spent with you capped off years of appreciation for your fine talent and look forward to many more of enjoyment. Hearing you for the first time with Tony Booth some 30+ years ago let me know you would rise to the top of your game. Thanks for sharing yourself with us.

The first time I ever played a gig with a steel guitar in the band, it was Jay Dee. I was a jazz guitarist in LA, and Al Bruno and I shared an apartment. Al called and said he was having car trouble, could I cover the first set for him (I think it was at the Palomino).

I got some funny looks when I took the Super 400 out of the case, but the first set went down fine. When we went on break, I introduced myself to him and said that the steel was really making the band happen (which it was). He was quite cordial, and we had a nice visit.

About that time, Al showed up, and I said something to him about how great the steel was sounding. He asked if I knew who that was, and I said "Yeah, his name is Jay Dee, seems to be a hell of a nice guy..."

Al breaks in with "I know him, you twit! I meant, do you know WHO he is?" Then he proceeded to fill me in.

We still laugh about that.

Good on ya Jay Dee.
