Steel Player on Sessions at West 54th

Post by Todd Pertll »

I was watching Sessions at West 54th last night starring David Byrne of Talking Heads fame. Does anyone know who the steel player was?

Is that right? I've seen this in rerun numerous times and always wondered. He is playing a Dekley rigged with major electronics--I forget if it's a midi rig. He seems well in control of all that he's doing. An excellent example of steel outside of the box.

Yep, but I coulda sworn it was an MSA S-10 -- maybe on a double frame -- with a MIDI pickup

Hmmm...I didn't see it last night so my memory isn't fresh but I recall last time I watched thinking that it was an Emmons chevron and then on closer look seeing the Dekley logo. My recollection wants to say that it was a D-10 but I really am not sure. This was the show with the Brazilian-looking female backup singer dancing and wiggling thru the whole show (not that I noticed) and Byrne comes out for one song in his inside-out human body suit.

OK, maybe all I got right was it was Bruce Kaphan and he used a midi pickup. Lighting wasn't good and there weren't many closeups -- and, as usual, steel wasn't exactly front and center. I stand corrected.
