Doug "Ernest Bovine" Livingston in concert

Post by Mike Perlowin RIP »

Well, it wasn't exactly a concert, Just a gig at a local cantina backing up a singer. But there was no guitar player. Just steel, bass and drums. Doug played every lead and fill. It was a pleasure to behold.

It was also a lesson in humility. Doug is an amazing player. I don't have the words to convey the degree to with I hold him in awe. He never seemed to run out of ideas, he never played any cliches and he never repeated himself the whole time I was there. (I couldn't stay all night, much as I wanted to.) Whether it was on a swing tune or a new tune or an old standard, Doug just tore it up.

Come to think of it, it really was a concert. A good one.

I haven't heard Earnest for well over twenty years when he was an 'honorary' member' of our band for one night in London - he 'knocked me for six' back then, and I don't suppose he's got any worse Image..

I'm sure it was a musical lesson and a treat! It "hurts" a lot more when you have to stand beside him and try to solo after he does. But he's just that way on the piano too!! Image
