Jim Murphy/ AsleepAtTheWheel

Post by Lonnie Portwood »

I got to meet Jim at Silver Springs, fl. this past Sunday and stand backstage watching him make love to that old double eight!! We were fortunate to be able to open for the Wheel and Tracy Bird, and watching these great bands work was akin to having good ***!How many of you knew Jim was great on Sax? If you appreciate the finer things in life (western swing), do yourself a favor and go see the "wheel" when they come your way

I first saw Murphy in about 1974,at the Tradewinds west in Tulsa. He was with a local group called the Tommy Nelson Band.
Murphy, played sax and steel. As a matter of fact Murphy was the first steel player I ever saw up close, and live. I don't know what brand of steel he was playing then.
He impressed me back then, and I know he's even better now.
