This is an unmangled copy of the photo taken on Tyson's porch prior to the release of GSB's album. It appears in the CD booklet, but folded and stapled. Ken Kalmusky was later replaced by Jim Colegrove.

I'm going to say 1968, but it could be a year either way. That album came out and was almost immediately buried by the label. Then it reissued, disappeared again, and was a serious collectors item for some time. Festival Express was 1970, so I'm guessing this would be 1968, right when Cage was hired, after his short stint with Hawkins. that would make him 20 or 21.
I'll ask BC, but like most of us, that period is a bit of a blur.

I know that photo. Believe it or not, I have an original vinyl copy of the album. Sometimes you can find some interesting stuff on the used record fairs over here in Europe. Cage told me it´s pretty rare. He also told me a story about the photo on the back, ask him about it next time you get in touch with him. I bought the CD anyway because it has a killer live version of "Trucker´s Cafe" as bonus track!

It's the same photo used on the back of my copy of the vinyl album jacket!
BTW: Congratulations on your gorgeous new Fessy! How in the world do you decide which of your excellent instruments to take to a gig? That question goes to all you giggin' players with multiple "classic" axes.

I see Amos weekly and next time I'll ask him about the date. When I played with Sylvia, I asked her why her voice cracked on Trucker's Cafe, as it didn't when she sang it live, and she said she had a cold when they recorded that album in Nashville. Amos is also moving from Turner Valley to Black Diamond, a whole 3 km. away!
I met Amos about 2 years after the GSB album was made. He was working with Butterfield and living in Woodstock, NY. He was a real gentleman. He invited my singer, keyboard player, and myself to his house. He was selling the 1957 Telecaster that he said he used for the recording, in order to buy an Epiphone electric. It only had one working pickup. I could not afford the $200 he was asking for the guitar. That was a heartbreaker. He did, however, teach me the solo to "Flies in the Bottle". It was very cool.
Buddy told me in the email he sent the picture was taken in 1968.
