Compliment??? I think so.....

Post by Ricky Littleton »

talking to a buddy of mine tonite (over numerous icy coldy libations) he said when he was playing bass in country bands, he and many other folks didn't really look at pedal steel so much as another instrument in the band but rather like another "vocal" that not only had a place, but probably presented an emotion in the song that the singer and the band couldn't really make happen.

everyones thought? i thought it was a major compliment to "us folks..."

I recall an old country saying, "The steel is meant to be felt and not heard". Now if you want to test this theory, just miss a rehearsal and listen to the comments.

Of coarse it goes without saying--the effects are totally in the hands of the player, right ? The instrament no doubt has the potentials to respond like none other (IMHO) but it also has the potential to be overwhelming and many times in a negitive way, if presented improperly. It seems that sometimes the hardest thing for us to learn is "more isn't always better".
Now, I need to figure out what I just wrote ! - Image

I've never heard it said like that, but it sure is a compliment!
