Allen wrench?! Everybody knows a 5/8" half inch drive deep socket from Sears gets the best tone. And it's already chromed. Image

You are right David, about the socket, plus my wife says you can change your spark plugs when you're done playing.

Actually, that made a lot of sense. For decades, players have been using a "sitar bar" which was nothing more than a regular bar (usually of the Stevens, or Dobro design) which got that particular "sitar" sound from having a small "flat" ground on the bar. An Allen wrench has 6 such flats!

(Let's see...6 flats...doesn't that make it a Gb Allen wrench? Image )

Donny,
He was holding it with the short end up so as to have the bend on the strings, seems like it would be hard to hold...

(6 flats could be considered a good sized apartment building also)

Bill, the only psg'er I have ever seen in New Orleans is Dave Easley(Awesome non traditional player). But I did see a clip of a guy playing on Bourbon street on the CNN a few days ago. Was the player African American? It might be the same guy, as he had a rub-board player w/ him, and that might be considered "New Cajun"

Hey Bill, You haven't seen it all!!! When I was a kid 55yrs ago and learning to play steel guitar, I saw a side show at the Memphis Cotton Carnival. There was a girl with no arms playing the steel guitar with her feet. She held the bar with the toes on her left foot and her picks with the toes on her right foot. The guitar was flat on the floor She really played good, mostly Hawaiian music. I was really motivated to practice, although I already practiced 8 hours a day. Little did she know, but she was a big influence in my success as a musician. I was truly inspired by her accomplishment. Keep on pick'in.

I thought 6 flats was the key of G-flat.

Al:

There was a young boy in Louisville in the 40's and 50's who had no arms and played with his feet the way you described. He had a special chair that had a platform attached to the bottom of the legs where he placed a 6-string lap steel. He was certainly an inspiration to me.
