Sacred Steel on the Radio

Post by Bill Moore »

I left the house this morning about 10:30, on the way to an eye exam. Punched up NPR radio in Detroit, WDET. DJ Robert Jones has a blues show every Saturday, 10-12. Suddenly I heard him mention Sacred Steel, there he was interviewing Elder Ted Beard, live on the radio. He played some recordings by Calvin Cooke, then Mr. Beard played live in the studio, just pedal steel and guitar. Sounded great! This was a promo for an event being held tomorrow night in Detroit. It's a fund raiser for the Big City Blues Magazine, click here

Elder Ted Beard and Calvin Cooke will be appearing at The Fifth Avenue, downtown Detroit. This is located in Comerica Park, where the Detroit Tigers play. click here The time is 4:00 PM

They also mentioned that there would be Sacred Harp playing, something that I had not heard about. Sounds like a good event, wish I could go.
