Truck Drivin' Pedal Steelers?

Post by Adrian Wulff »

I've got a couple of questions. Does anyone know who played steel on Red Stegall's "Truck Driving Man?". What is the line in Red Sovine's "Freightliner Fever" that goes, "Merle Haggard said to his..."?
All I can hear is "Fireman so pale". Can anyone recommend a compilation cd for either of the Reds' that has good steel?

Thanks,
Adrian

Hey guys,
I have a cassette that has "Truck Drivin' Man" by Red Steagall on it. Just before the steel solo, Red says, "now here's Sonny" so one would assume that it is indeed Sonny Garrish Jason

Merle Haggard said to his fireman so pale, He's a blowin' this freight train off'a the rail. He's got the fever etc...That's CW McCall's version. Red said" We gonna blow that freight train off'a the rail." If you like that kind of music listen to the cd "Roll truck roll/The man behind the badge" from Red Simpson. The steel is played by the late Leo Leblanc, when i heard it for the first time, for me it was one of those rare moments that you are completely overwhelmed by what you hear. A unique, beautifull clear and sweet sound and fantastic playing. One of my all-time favorites as far as steel concerned.
