Who is it???

Post by Fred Shannon »

Get your guessing clothes on. On December 12th one of our forumites will celebrate another birthday. His steel playing could, by some, be classified as professional caliber, he has also been known to play alto sax, but he never made it big with his horn blowing. His nickname, given to him by a Hollywood movie star is "The Dallas Flash". Name the steeler and the movie star.

Not many takers. The steeler's name is Maurice Anderson and the Moviestar was Tex Ritter. They both have the same given names and when Reece first started playing for Tex he was asked what is first name was. When he told Tex it was Maurice, Tex said, "That is a crazy name, but it's mine too." He told Reece he would just call him the 'Dallas Flash' and he called him that even after Reece went into the Army.

His horn playing occurred when he was playing with Cecil Luna in Dallas and Cecil wanted to draw more customers so he gave Reece an Alto Sax and told him to learn to play it. Within 2 weeks the band had 3 horn tooters, including Reece, and played to SRO crowds every night. How's that for versatility? Image
