CD: Pedal steel tribute to ZZ Top

Post by ajm »

I was in Tower Records yesterday going through the ZZ Top bin and there was this album.

Anybody hear of it?

It said something implying that there were several great steel players on it, but the credits for the musicians on the back only listed one. I didn't recognize his name or any of the other musicians for that matter.

I would have bought it but am kind of hesitant about spending almost $20 on an unknown product.

It shows up on eBay from time to time at much less than $20. I've been tempted to buy it myself, but haven't yet. I'd like to hear more about it too.

Is this the tribute album with a bunch of Top Forty country singers(Brooks & Dunn, Paisley, Yoakam, etc.) doing covers of ZZ's material?

This is not the top 40 country version. It lists players on the back that I personally have never heard of before. There are no names on the disc that I have ver heard of before.

I havent heard the whole cd but I have heard Brad Paisley's cut on there, Sharp Dressed Man and Randle Currie plays a GREAT ride on it. We will proubly hear more great playin' by Randle on Brad's next cd. I have known Randle since he was 18 yrs. old and he's one of the nicest young men you will ever meet and his playing gets better ever time I see him. ESnow

Jan and company;

I don't think that we're on the same page. Brad, Brooks, Dwight, etc. are not listed on the one that I saw, but I know which one you are referring to.

On the one that I saw there are credits for 5-6 musicians listed on the back, and I have never heard of any of them, steel or otherwise. If memory serves me correctly, there is also one "original" song on there as well.

" Please sign messages with your real name, first and last, when posting on the forum."....just like b0b,Ernest Bovine, etc.

Sorry,b0b,I just had to do that Image
b0b,I know that you must have good reasons for this rule, but perhaps a post as to why some are allowed to do this, while others are not, might turn away the clouds of confusion.
From the perspective of a new member,it does appear to be a contradiction, even though it is your right to enforce whatever rules, whenever and however you choose.

Yes guys, I can read. In all fairness I read b0b's previous post and made the attempt to update my profile with a signature earlier this week, but for some reason it did not register.

FLASH!!!!! I think I just figured it out. Let's see if this does it. If not I'll contact b0b and see if I can get it squared away.

Anyway, back on topic......

It looks like I might have to buy this album and report on it. I'm surprised no one else has seen it around in their travels.
