That's fantastic news, that means he's back playing again. Just one thing though, I thought the Opry was broadcast on Saturday Nights, is this a special or something?

Saturday night Lloyd will be playing with Steve on the 6:30 show and the 11:00 PM show. He will be featured with a "killer" turn-a-round so tune in!

Mike: Thanks for the heads up !! I was able to get WSM on line and after deleting everything I had on my load line except WSM, I cut the buffering dropouts to a minimum.

But what can you say about Lloyd Green ?? What a giant of steel styling !! If you didn't hear it, you missed something very special. Again, thank you for the notice !!

I heard him on the way to the gig tonight much to my surprise and playing the turnaround and the complete solo! Just amazing as always. I was just thinking how so many of us try to learn the newest lick out there and then there's this trend setter just sounding like himself and setting the pace.

Did anyone catch Steve and Lloyd on tape, I would pay for that solo. I was coming home from a steel show in Dothan, Ala. I was listening to the Opry and when Lloyd went into that solo, it brought tears to my eyes. I have never heard so much heart and soul, in someone's playing in my life. Goshamighty!

Select Listen-Archives-Grand Ole Opry-Grand Ole Opry. Choose Hi or Lo connection speed for Saturday, October 12, 2002 and sit back and listen.

While awaiting the 11:00 show, which is really 12:00 AM my time, I listened for a couple of hours with no problems. Then about 10 minutes before the segment with Lloyd and also Mike Sigler (Holly Dunn) it just quit playing.

I figured it was all of you turkeys connecting. Tell me I'm wrong and that this forum really doesn't hold THAT much sway.

When are the archives available for play? I tried yesterday and it just said "stopped" or something like that.

I listened to bits and pieces of the archive yesterday with no problems and am listening to the whole show today at work.

It's amazing how much really good music never makes it to the TV portion.

Marco, thank you very much! I had heard this on the archives, but I don't know how to make mp3's. I would imagine that Lloyd had a couple of fellows looking over his shoulder as he played. Back years ago, Chet Atkins always had guitar players standing near him watching.
It's sad that the audience had no idea who they were seeing! He sounded great!

I was wrong about Saturday archives. They are there but there's no specific menu selection to get them. I think the last menu choice was "All Shows" and then you can get Saturday archives along with Friday.

I finally got to listen to the Saturday night segment with Lloyd and also my Ohio buddy Mike Sigler playing it "hot" for Holly Dunn. She too, was kind enough to introduce her steeler (and lead guitarist).

Who played the great steel for Little Jimmy?

It's great that WSM puts that out for us on the web.

Exactly what we’ve been missing!!!!

Steve Wariner is a great performer! He’s an excellent musician and singer. I’ve enjoyed hearing Steve’s recordings over the years and have purchased his albums. However, Lloyd Green’s performance with Steve on the opry is, in my opinion, a perfect illustration of what we steel guitar and traditional country music fans have, for the most part, been missing.

Steve’s performance of his hit, "Where Did I Go Wrong" on Saturday’s opry show perfectly demonstrates Lloyd’s ability to apply fresh, tasteful steel guitar licks to a song and make the song much more interesting. I hope Nashville’s record producers were listening and that they begin to realize the possibilities for steel guitar.

Can you imagine what Lloyd Green (and Paul Franklin, John Hughey, Sonny Garrish, etc.) could do if given the freedom to play like Lloyd did Saturday night with Steve Wariner? Well, I can dream can’t I?

Anyway, Steve Wariner’s appreciation of Lloyd was evident and it was a truly memorable performance.
