Does anyone name their PSG?

Post by Al Burk »

I frequently refer to my steels as names of famous ladies. I call my red Birdseye MSA “Lucy”, after the queen of comedy. I call my Black mica Carter “Aretha”, after the queen of soul.

What are some names you have given your steels?

My Carter Starter is called Hannah in honor of a friends baby who was born around the same time I ordered the steel.
It's also my paternal/maternal great grandmothers name.

The steel that I built myself was called
"The Steel". CAme about because when anyone asked if I was free, I'd say "N. I have to go home and work on the steel." So when it came to putting a name on it (what should I call it?) my girlfriend said, you keep calling it "the Steel"-- so that's the name on it (in mother of pearl in my handwriting) and that's what I call it.
Never thought about anything else.
Generally don't name things.

If I remember, Winnie is playing "The Steel" in the photo on the front cover of his book.
By the way Winnie, thanks for that book.Back in the days before b0b's forum your book was like a beacon in this steel guitar wilderness {Australia}.

Like Jack, i'll spare the names, but it all depends on how my playing is going.

Don't let jack fool you though, he plays a real fine COUNTRY steel.

Several of my steels go by the same name depending on how well I'm playing, and that would be: "*%$!?>*&" Steve Image

A fitting name would be, "The other woman." How many divorces have been a result of spending more time with it than the little woman not to mention playing nights away from home and those pretty barflies, whoa.

I may have this wrong but as I recall, Joe found the wood for the "Log" in an area where it was probably felled by a beaver!

Joe is a great guy.. very forthcoming and helpful. He may have more photos of the Log. I only have what others send to me after the yearly Mid-Canada Convention in Winnipeg.

BTW he gets great tone from the Log. I'm not sure what pickup he put into it but I'm sure he'd be glad to tell you all about it.

You may find more photos here

No, I've never named any of my instruments, and I had a lot, since the 60s. Never named one.

I call them by descriptions, such as "the J45", "the D10", "the S10", "the Tele" ...

Is there something wrong with me?

An appropriate name for mine would be Christine. She seems to do what she feels like doing, somtimes with disasterous results.

I used to have a guitar called "That Thang", so named because people kept asking me, "What is that thang?".
