Hey Buddie! In answer to the question, I believe it was Don Helms.

I have no personal stake here...I definitely might be thinking of "Crazy". And I definitely defer to those who would know.

My apologies to Herb, too---this makes it look like I wouldn't believe him but do believe these other gentlemen. Not so at all. My respects to all of you.

Which of the better known Patsy Cline stuff did Ben Keith play steel on?

John, I had a rough few moments there, but I thought long and hard about it and I've decided to accept your apology.
The contract to have you whacked has been cancelled. Stand tall and proud, brother.

Actually, Patsy cut the song twice. Don Helms played on the "Walkin'" cut from 1956. Don played on all the cuts from 1955 and 1956 that had steel. Walter played on the "Walkin'" cut from 1961. So, WE'RE BOTH RIGHT!
BTW, the bolt-on is a nice one and if the new owner is a buddy of yours, you'll see it soon I'm sure.
Greg, Ben played on "I Fall To Pieces," "Shoes," and "Lovin' In Vain" from 1960. Jimmy Day played on "Lovesick Blues," "How Can I Face Tomorrow," "There He Goes," and "Crazy Dream," also from 1960.
I believe everything else from 1961 to the end, if it had steel on it, was Walter Haynes.
Great Jimmy Day story: In 1995 I was playing a production of "Always... Patsy Cline" and I needed a sub for one night. I called Jimmy and said, "hey man, you want to play with Patsy Cline?" He knew what I was gonna ask but without dropping a beat he said "HELL NO!! Not YET!!!"
God, I miss that guy.
