Mike Johnson

Post by Mark Ardito »

There has been a little talk about him on the forum lately. In case you guys haven't picked up the new CD by Daryle Singletary, please do so now. Mike Johnson plays steel on every cut and is amazing! I had no idea about this CD until a friend gave me the tip, and then did some research about him on the forum. Great playing...especially on "I never go around mirrors".

Mark, if you don't have anything by Brad Paisley, you need to get it. Mike's all over
both of his CD's. Brad lets him play!

Having both artist's CDs, Mike has been playing in the Walker house on a regular basis.

Now, I don't want to start trouble, and this is only my opinion, but Mike's ride in "I Never Go Around Mirrors" may be the best steel lick I've ever heard. Gives me chicken skin!!

Mike is fantastic on the Singletary recording! IMO, this is the best CD of the year! " I never Go Around Mirrors" is awesome. The backup on "Kay" and "Dim Lights" is also super!

Mike has had a huge influence on my playing. I have a few clips of his playing at: http://frankestesmba.us/music.html

I plan to add more in the near future as I now have more free space.

I saw Mike down on lower broadway tuesday night. He was using his red push-pull, looked like he was running straight to a Nashville 400. Made me want to throw my
rack away.

I run into that same problem. My teacher comes over to my house and plays my guitar through my Nashville 400 and it sounds great! I sit down and play it, and it sounds nothing like that sweet tone he had. Makes me believe it is the hands not the amp.
