I just purchased Gary Carpenter's CD, "Steel Guitar Favorites", and he plays a beautiful version of Sleepwalk. We should be hearing more steel player play this great song now that the originators are in the SHF.

I get a request for "sleepwalk" every time I go out to play. It is really a very pretty song. Sounds good on both E9 or C6.....al Image Image

Congratulations to both inductees. Sure wish I could have been there.
Paul, take a listen to Tom Brumlys version of Sleepwalk on his new cd In Time. It blows me away. Simply the best I've heard. Cheers to all. The ole Stump.

One of my fondest convention memories happened in the Derby room. I was playing an instrumental version of "Crazy" on steel and saw two feet appear in front of me as I was looking down at the fret board. When I finished I looked up and it was Pee Wee. He said "very nice arrangement son". I told Pee Wee that I couldn't believe he liked it. He said to just keep playing because he was learning just watching me. He was very sincere. It was a very big compliment coming from him and it made me realize that everyone has something to offer. A real gentelman.

Terry Bethel's version of "Sleep Walk" on his new CD is beautiful, in fact, the whole project is unbelievable, tone, execution, material, some of the best I've heard in a while. He obviously has put in a lot of time perfecting his craft.

It is one of the very very few steel instrumentals that hit the charts big time. A classic.

I guess it's time to start our NORM HAMLET for SGHoF campaign. I never know where those nominations end up, but judging from the list of players in, and not in, I'd say it's about time for Norm to be so honored.

I don't know how many albums Merle Haggard has recorded, but he titled "My 30th Album" way back in 1974/75. Norm has played steel and dobro on the vast majority of Hag's recordings, and has been the Strangers' steeler for about 34-35 years now. We're talking quite a large number of #1 hits there.

Norm attended the ISGC this year.
He didn't perform, but I spoke with him.

He's an excellent canidate, IMO.

The nomination procedure is described at http://www.scottysmusic.com/abouthof.htm

Joey, is there a location on this site that lists all of the members and the year they were inducted?

Sincere Congrats to Pee Wee for this well deserved recognition-his induction segment did not feature the fanfare and celebrity testimonials that have been given to some prior Hall of Fame Players-and Pee Wee in his humbleness expressed some self-reservation whether he deserved this award-which I feel he does-and I also think Pee Wee should get the award for being on of the nicest human beings on the planet Image
