After hearing so much about the Sunday "jams" at this place, I finally made it out there last night. I had an absolute ball. The level of musicianship is pro/touring quality, because most everyone who plays is just that. Bill Dearmore was in his usual fine form, with great chops and tone. I played for perhaps 1& 1/2 hours, backing up multiple different singers. I had a wonderful time. It is not that often I get a chance to just "play for fun".... it reminds me of why I love to play.
Got to see a few forumites who were out and about. Micheal Garnett came up to my house after church and rode to Granger with me. He is making fine progress on the steel. Justin Griffith came up and introduced himself to me after I played. He is a pleasant fellow and we talked for some time.
I met two other steelers, one who was taking lessons from Bill and another very young ~ 17 y/o picker. I can't remember their names....oops! The lead guitarist for the house band is Kevin Keys, who also plays steel.
If ya' all get the chance to make it out on a Sunday afternoon/evening, you really should. It was well worth the drive!
BTW... a special thanks to Bill Dearmore for letting me play his black PP
