The Whites' Steel Player

Post by Bob Snelgrove »

Anyone catch them on the Oprey on Sat. He was playing a black Derby and was doing some killer c6 stuff on the e9 neck!

Derby sounded very Emmons like.

he does some killer stuff on C6 too as well as 6 sting and Dobro,I have known steve for many years and think he is one of the most under rated pickers around today, He sings pretty good too!I'd like to see him at some of the shows we all attend.

Thanx Bob, for starting a post about Steve Wilkerson. (I hope this one doesn't get off the subject of Steve & his new Derby.) A great player & plays a great steel too, JMHO. Hey Robert, did I spell Steve's name right? Yes you have the correct spelling, and he does make that Derby sound good. he also makes a Tele sound great, more people need to hear this outstanding player,as far as I'm concerned he really shines when he backs the Whites with their great country sound. and you can tell Buck White likes his picking too!Any one who watched the Whites Acoustic set a while back heard Steve do some mighty fine thumb style too.

Don't mind me; the facts I hadn't bothered to mention was that Steve took delivery of his new Derby just a few weeks, not sure, after I had gotten mine. So that was a treat for me when he started firing up, as I wasn't expecting it, then started putting 2 & 2 together as Charlie (Stepp) told me he was either interested or had one on order.
YES, I'm certain that Steve would sound good on virtually anything. It's just that knowing my Derby has the BEST tone of any gtr. I've ever owned out of 6, and then to hear Steve come on & sound wonderful, well, that spun my beanie.
Way to rip, Steve!

Bob, thanks for the thread on Steve-he is a great player! I wish he could do some steel when he works with Charly Louvin, although as was noted in the thread he is a great guitar player as well. Thanks again!
