Together again with - Jeanie Sealey (not!)
I was horrified to hear one of my favorite songs "Together Again" being butchered and murdered by Jeanie Sealey on Sat night at the Opry. She was out of time and out of key and croaked it like a frog. Furthermore, I don't know who played the steel break but it was a pityful performance when compared with Buck Owens and Tom Brumley. Did anyone else hear it???

O.K., here ya'll go putting down my friends again. I confess I did not hear the performance referred to, but, speaking as someone who has played that song many times with Jeannie, her timing and meter are impeccable. It is also unfortunate that great
singers suffer from the same maladies & affictions (such as sore throat) that other people do, the main difference being that a professional puts on a smile and sings any-
way, knowing it won't be their best performance. As for Jeannie's timing, I can tell you that, she does incorporate some of
Willie Nelson'a style into her own unique
phrasing. That does throw some pickers a curve ball, but like Willie, she knows where
she's at, even if no one else does. (meant as a compliment).

I also didn't hear it, but as I asked in the Jack Greene thread, WHY do we have to expect every artist to do a song the way the original was played even down to the steel parts?
Let's cut them some slack. She's getting old but you have to give her credit for being out there performing. The older artists may be off key, forget words or whatever, but I would still rather listen to them like that than a lot of the newer (younger?) artists.

To start with her name is spelled Seely, and she is one of the most soulful female singers we still have left. She also writes a mean song (EX. Another Bridge To Burn)As far as the steel player I don't know who it was but I do know that each steel guitarist has a personality and he or she should not have to play it the way Tom Brumley did. Tom is a friend of mine and I'm sure he would tell you the same thing. Be yourself.
Thank you Jeannie for keeping it country.

You know, Jeannie Seeley has never been one of my favorites--no dislike just not a fave, although the duet with (here we go)Jack Greene was awesome. But, like all of us, snhe's getting along in years, and her throat is not what it used to be.
Neither is Merle Haggard's, or(GASP!!)Emmylou's. But they're still great, and with more soul than ever, if that's possible.
And when's the last time ol' Willie won an award?

The band I was with was in Nashville for something or other in '78 or '79. We were staying in the Hall of Fame Motor Inn,the CMA awards were going on down the street. I was sitting in the lounge listening to Curly Chalker's trio and when the award show was over, Jack Green, Jeannie Seely, the Bellamy Bros. and others came over and sat in. Jack Green sang Statue of a Fool, Jeannie did "Don't Touch Me". In the mid to late '70's I was not even into "traditional" country (despite growing up on it) but those two made chills run up my spine with that little trio and I'm real hard to impress. I would've never thought they could do it if I hadn't heard it for myself.

I also was traveling and did'nt see Jeannie on the Opry, but I've had the pleasure of backing her when she sang with The Farewell Party Band and I was proud to be in that spot. She was very nice and playing "Don't Touch Me" was something I'll always keep in that place you keep important things. I did'nt play her songs to the letter either and would'nt want to. If we play everything like the original, how can our instrument grow? Corky.
