'Just as I am' - Mike Sweeney

Post by clive swindell »

I was listening to Mike's gospel CD last evening and working up the melody to 'Just as I am'.

I dont know this tune - does anyone have the words - it makes it so much easier when there are words to relate to.

I just emailed the words as found on the internet. I hope these are the right ones.

Just as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,
To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind;
Sight, riches, healing of the mind,
Yea, all I need in Thee to find,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, Thy love unknown
Hath broken every barrier down;
Now, to be Thine, yea, Thine alone,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, of that free love
The breadth, length, depth, and height to prove,
Here for a season, then above,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

Words: Charlotte Elliott, 1835
Music: “Woodworth,” William B. Bradbury, Mendelssohn Collection, or Third Book of Psalmody (New York: 1849)

Reggie,
Your right. Looks just like the Baptist hymnal.
Clive,
Good luck with "Just As I Am" it's a beautifull song. If I can help you with the way I do it e-mail me any questions and I'll answer them.

Hey Clive,
Interesting old English too - we can relate to that eh?
It's interesting how the language has evolved over the years plus the words in a song to last for all this time.

Bob Mainwaring Z.Bs. and other weird things.

Thanks everyone, that was really useful. If you get chance to listen to any of Mikes CDs then do so as even Lloyd Green says on the liner notes to Mikes first country CD that it is one of the best he has heard.

Mike, thanks for the reply. Just one point - on one of the replies it shows a 2minor chord and a 5minor chord in the second line of the verse, whereas I worked out that your backing track is just 1, 4 and 5 major chords. Who is correct?
