loretta lynns steel player
on june 19 i went to see loretta lynn in concert in columbus ohio,was able to talk to her steelplayer(charlie) he use to play lead for conway,but to hear him play steel you would think he played it all his life. he had a great sound and his licks fit perfect.
you can tell a little bit of hughey had to rub off on him.loretta souonded great,but she was having lung problems due to a past case of pnemonia. i really enjoyed the show!

Bob, I know what Jim meant. But, didn't Bob Hempker do a fine job while with Loretta! Here is a pic of Hal and me in New Orleans.

I played a "Cruisin' with Conway" ocean cruise. John Hughey had just left the band. (Drat!) Charlie was playing guitar. He did seem really interested in my steel, but never said he was a player, too. He's a fantastic guitar player and a nice guy, too.

I'll have this add this much----Ruggsy and Hempker both have super respect from me and Bob has a double dose of it --- first for the job he did with The Coal Miners and secondly and perhaps more importantly, for refraining from choking Hal for all the intros , rides, frills, etc he so abundantly installed in Loretta's recordings for him to try to copy in front of the multitudes !!!! How did you do it Bob ????? Did he ever apologize for it ???? Hmmmmmm -

Bill;
Bob probably didn't say a word. He just did it. He's a fantastic player. I think he's still with Roy Clark in Branson.

Thanks so much, guys. I did just exactly what any of you would have done.; I got serious, and busted my butt to learn the stuff as best I could. Bill, I enjoyed visiting with you, Sunday. I really needed that day. I enjoyed seeing so many people I love being around, and getting to play some good music. I think the band we had was superb. Anyone who can't play with those guys, can't play with anyone. Terry done a masterful job putting that band, and for that matter, the whole entire show together.
Everyone on the show played well. I hit several clams, but I played loud. I bounced them off the back wall.
