Need Some Forumite Input!

Post by Ray Montee (RIP) »

Several months ago in a long running discussion about exactly what, I cannot now recall....however the writer mentioned an old Hawaiian tune, one of the very first I'd ever heard and actually had a record of.
It might have been George "Keoki" Lake, a Canadian from up North; or, perhaps Rick on the top of the mountain in New York. I just can't recall, but I would enjoy speaking with individual about that tune.
Like WHO recorded it? Who was the steel play? etc.
Can anyone help this old man? I don't have a lot of time left, don't you know.

Ooooooops! That tune was "Hawaiian Honeymoon" or something like that! It starts out: "If you want a trip to Hawaii, call me Sweetheart, we'll be there soon......beneath the tropical moon"

Ray, that song goes back a long way...before the war. I think Sol Hoopii had the original, but here's a link to a site that has a modern cut...

Howdy Ray, Rick reportin' in from Blue Mountain in Ole' VIRGINNY (hope my bluegrass buddies don't see that yankee comment of yours) ... Ha,Ha Image

Seriously here is the one I have:

Hawaiian Honeymoon (3:01)

Sol Hoopii And His Novelty Quartette: Sol Hoopii, esg (electric steel guitar), vocals;

prob. Dick McIntire, 2nd esg (electric steel guitar);

Los Angeles, CA, 10/06/35, Br 55085, mx BLA 429-B

(from discography by Dave Stewart)

This is one "great" CD .. it is in mp3 format and 1 disc contains 188 songs from 1925-1938.

And you think you are stuck in a time warp Image

THANKS Donny and Rick! What a great place this Forum is and what a wonderful bunch of guys to associate with. Appreciate your input. The voluntary contribution that I recently sent to b0b has, once again, just been more than justified.
