Dag,
As a side topic, i'd be curious to know why Country music, and steel guitar is so popular in Norway? Or is it this way in all European countries?

Erik,
to make a long story short: Norway use to be one of the worlds biggest country in shipping. During the 50`s and 60`s norwegian sailors sailed both east and west coast of USA and heard the countrymusic on the radio stations there. In port they bought records and brought them back to Norway. As a young kid during the 70`s I was under the influence of these sailors in my family and actually thats how I got hooked on the steelguitar.

Country music are quite popular here and there`s a lot of country festivals here this summer.

I love to meet fellow steel players and that why I try to find out who`s playing with Marty and Paul O.

Thanks,
Dag

Dag,
It's so good to hear country is big in Norway! I've never scene Marty or Paul live so I can't help you with their players. So sorry,if it's a package show I'm sure someone will have an answer for you and steel will be involved. Thanks for all that support in Norway! Image Theresa

Dag;

You're already there.
Your gear is already there.
Why don't you volunteer for the job?

Maybe Theresa or someone else with Nashville connections could hook all of you guys up. Have a couple phone calls, send them an audition tape, a few e-mails, get a song list, hopefully you'll have a day or two to rehearse with them, and you're in!!!

Theresa, actually the whole music scene here in Norway are quite good. Do you know who replaced the late Gary Houge?

AJM, that would have been great - backing Marty...
Back in -95 I was playing with Chely Wright and Joe Barnhill and couple of other country acts from the USA. It was a lot of fun.

Thanks,

A decade or so ago (during the Nashville Now era), a guy played a JCH with Paul Overstreet on that TV show. I remember him sounding very good on the song, "Call the Preacher."

<font size=2>Sorry--that probably doesn't help...but, we old folk like to reminisce.

Sure it's diverse. It's diverse music I ever heard!

my band opened for Marty a few weeks back... no steel.

I don't think Marty has filled the vacancy

Hello, Dag, Can you tell me where the festival will be held and on which days will it take place? Also, do you have any idea of the acts that will be there? Sure would like to attend if I can make it. Enjoy! Thanks,
Steve

The player with Paul Overstreet was or is Donny LaValle. Donny played with Reba for years and when she made a band change right after she moved to Nashville the Ft. Worth guys who had been with her a good while were gone. Donny is a great player and a great guy too. Donny, Gary Carpenter, the late Gary Hogue, Junior Knight, and myself used to jam together in Ft. Worth in the late 70,s and early 80's.We just could not get Gary Carpenter or Junior Knight to move to Nashville.!

I ran into Donny Lavalley about 1991 when he had found the Lord and joined Paul Overstreet. I lost track of him then and I think he got out of the music biz entirely and moved back to New York State.
