Ron lives in Winnipeg and plays bass locally, mostly jazz. The following photo is from the 2000 Mid-Canada Steel Convention. The drummer you see is Reg Keln. Ron & Reg were 2/3 of the Lenny Breau Trio.

Ron Halldorson is absolutely one of the greatest, most underrated and unknown steel guitarists in the world. I grew up in Winnipeg and Lenny Breau and Ron would come over to our house many times just to play. Little did I know as a kid they were such incredible musicians! Ron gave me some cassettes of his steel playing for CBC Radio (Canadian radio) that he did back 20 plus years ago that just blows people away when they hear it. Al Brisco told me a couple of months ago that he talked to a producer/studio owner in NY about having Ron do a jazz CD. He's also a superb arranger and creative musician who is equally great on the bass and electric guitar. As Don said, those earlier Lenny Breau albums featured Ron on bass. He should release those great instrumentals stored in a fault somewhere in Winnipeg! How about Ronny?!

Hi Don! Yeah Ron is a great musician & I enjoy the Mid-Canada Steel show every year! Especially Al Brisco & that cool 'swinger' from Alberta, Billy Jones! See ya there!

I got a copy of that CBC special he did with Ross Porter from Bob Taillefer and it's a gem. Ronny is a very understated, underrated steel guitarist. He's Canada's best jazz player and innovator.

What I have seen and heard of Ron both through CBC and Bob Taillefer supports everything said about him here in this thread.
Unfortunately he has other musical interests that take precedent to steel guitar.
Maybe some day that will change.
I hope so.
He is an awesome talent.

Ron is amazing. He played bass with Lenny Breau, plays guitar on sessions and can play some of the most innovative steel guitar ever heard. He plays all of the above instruments incredibly well. Ron and Buddy are my main influence when is comes to jazz improvisation. Bob
