I wouldn't go so far as to say they are a cheep pedal....just wasn't designed for a pedal steel. I've used one with my Tele for years and they work fine when you're standing up.

I have to use one because I can't afford a Goodrich or Hilton and I HATE IT!! I once played with a Goodrich and since then I KNOW.

I have one that unexpectedly came with a pedal steel I bought last year. I have never used it, so I cannot tell you how good or bad it is. You can have it though, free of charge. I will even pay the postage. Just get it out of the house!

Ernie Ball pedals are very high quality. I use two, one for my Melobar(standing up), and one for my resonator(standing up). Yes, I said standing up, because the throw/sweep on the pedal is a little long when you're sitting down. But they are every bit as good as a Goodrich quality-wise....maybe smoother. They also have a tuner out feature that works continuously....great idea, and come in many more configurations(ins, outs, splits) than Goodrich.

...OK, I (stand) corrected!...I just had a bad experience with one on which the string broke after a very short time, and it certainly wasn't cheap in price...that doesn't qualify me to judge the overall quality of the pedal in all it's uses...

I have no problem with the Ernie Ball pedal.
It seems to be well constructed and functional for what it is designed to do.

I don't have a pedal to sell you, but I think they are a very good pedal. I can't find anything wrong with them, so I'd like to find out what other people have against them. I respect everyone's opinion. Hope you find what you're looking for though.

I have used my Goodrich and Ernie Ball vol pedals interchangably for years. Ernie Ball pedals work just as well as any pedal. One thing about the new ones is that the imputs and outputs are in the front instead of the side. The old ones might be a bit more convenient for steel players.

There is a super cheap one for sale over in Buy and Sell in the "moving to texas" thread.

There are 2 things I don't like about them:

1. The volume does not increase smoothly with the pressing of the padal. I guess at the last 1/4 of the padal-way it increases appr. 1/3. (oops: the language barrier. Does anyone understand what I'm trying to say???)

2. It's 2 year old had has been services two time yet. Got two new potis and IT STILL IS SCRATCHY!!

IMHO there is no comparison to a Goodrich. (or maybe also to the Hilton, I never used one)

Martin,

To fix problem #1 all you need to do is adjust the string and pot so that it activates at a place you are comfortable with.

Problem #2 is a problem with the pot inside the pedal. It is not a problem with the basic structure of the pedal. You will have the same problem with any pot type pedal at some point.

I have used Ernie Ball Volume pedals for 15 years. They work just fine.
I bought an extra one on e-bay for $65.
I'll probably never need it, but I like to cover my hienie.
