Recording from the Internet

Post by Mark Vinbury »

Is there a simple program that can capture and store whatever signal is being sent to my soundcard? It seems that there should be a way to store in RAM or on CD any signal going to the card from whatever source.
Can this be done with video also?

Obviously the purpose would be to be able to download audio and video and not have to deal with all the "propriatary" programs and codeing, etc.
I mean the signal must be all decoded and fairly simple when it hits the sound/video card.
Why can't it just be recorded at that point?

My guess is this is a lot more complex than it seems but thought I'd ask hopeing there was a simple explanation

You'll get some hits if you Google "streaming audio recorder".

Real Play Music is slick. It records what your sound card hears and stores it as a MP3. Google for Appian Technologies. Sometimes it even finds the title, artist, and album.

Thanks for the replies and info.
Record Smart seems like just what I was looking for.
Now if I can just find the same thing to capture the YouTube videos I'll be a happy boy---

To download YouTube videos to your computer.
1. first find a video you want to download
2. copy url then go here and paste the url in the long window and click on the download button
3. now right click on the "download link" button and choose "save target as", before you click on save add this file extension to the file name. (.flv)

Go here to download the flv player that will play the YouTube videos when you click on them.
[This message was edited by Andy Sandoval on 18 October 2006 at 06:37 PM.]

Andy-- Thanks for the .flv player info
It works great. I've tried a few others without sucess .This one is the answer.
I'm scrambling to capture as many of my favorite YouTube clips as possible. Expecting policy changes in the near future due to new ownership and copyright issues.
[This message was edited by Mark Vinbury on 19 October 2006 at 09:35 AM.]
