YouTube.com gets Googlized

Post by Bill Llewellyn »

YouTube, whose video links frequently appear here on the Forum, just got bought by Google for 1.65 gigadollars. (And they're not even profitable yet!) Now why didn't I think of founding a video sharing site like that? Image Holy Toledo.

I work in Mtn View CA, and the sprawling Google campus (9000 employees) literally surrounds my office building. At noontime one can see bunches of these 20-something (they all seem to be that age) Googlites roaming between buildings, some on company-provided electric scooters. Much of the foot traffic is headed to the centralized cafeterias (3), which are gourmet-quality and 100% free. A buddy of mine works there and had me over for lunch one day. A very cool experience. What an amazing, almost electrified place. A code writer's dream. (That's software....I'm a hardware guy.)
