Jody;
Can you try logging in from another computer? If so, let me know if the same thing occurs. If not, your computer/OS has become corrupted. The corruption may be the result of a software conflict, or from malware.
Since support for Windows 98 has ended your only option is to use you Windows 98 CD to reinstall the OS over itself and live without the final level of patches. You can still attempt to obtain Windows Updates, but there is no guarantee there will be any for you.
I have warned everybody several times that all support for Windows 98 ended in July, this year, both from Microsoft, and from many commercial security software companies. If at all possible I urge you all to upgrade to a licensed copy of Windows XP, preferably on a new computer.
