Firefox won't stop trying to use Quicktime.

Post by Earnest Bovine »

In the thread "Firefox 1.5.04 Just Released", I get a dialog box saying "The Quick Time Plug-in requires QuickTime System extension version 5 or later. etc" I also get this annoying box on other pages that contain media files of various types.
How do I tell Firefox not to look for QuickTime? So far I have tried the following:
1. Uninstall Fiorefox, delete all its folders, and delete every reference to Firefox and QuickTime in the registry. Then reinstall Fierfox. The new version still looks for Quicktime.
2. Manually edit the .js files that Firefox creates on installation, removing every instance of Quick time. Still Firefox looks for Quicktime when I browse to certain pages.

BTW, Microsoft Internet Explorer does not exhibit this pesky behavior. IE just uses other media players such as Winamp or Windows Media Player.

I'm real sorry about that. I removed the embedded QuickTime thing. Apparently the only reliable embedded format is Flash.

b0b, it's not just you. It happens on many web pages.
