Cancelling program instal

Post by winston »

My computer is a P4,3.0gig, 512 ROM and 130G hard drive. My problem is I went to install Cakewalk in my machine and when it ask for the install numbers I could not find them so I cancelled out the install. Now every time the computer boots it tries to finish the install. How can I stop this??? as always thanks. Winston May

Winston;
You need to find the location that is causing the installation to resume. It could be a file in your Programs > Startup folder, or a file launched via the Registry's Run commands (HKCU or HKLM). It is simplist to open Msconfig and look at all startup items in the Startup tab. Goto your Start button > Run and type msconfig then press the Enter key.

Note that you must be logged on as an Administrator to even open Msconfig.exe.

If you see an entry in the startup items that resembles a cakewalk installer, or that has a ~ in the beginning of the filename, or some other out of the typical name, post about it here and we'll try to help determine if it is the launcher, and how to terminate it and cleanup the failed installation.

Of course, if you are able to "find" the product key you can resume the installation and the problem will go away.

BTW: Similar things occur when certain versions of MsOffice are installed. Under certain circumstances the Windows Installer keeps popping up randomly, asking you to insert the installation CD. I have found that doing so usually cures the problem. It may just be looking to verify that a license or installer file is present on a CD.

If the Cakewalk program was registered properly, you can call Cakewalk and product support will give you the install key or email it to you. Cakewalk's product support is excellent.
