Windows Update for me is set up - "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them".
Even tho I'm using Firefox almost exclusively now, I went ahead and DL'd all of the latest updates for IE. (Probably a mistake after reading Wiz's last post).
But I did not DL the update concerning Outlook Express [cumulative security update for OE for Windows XP]. I don't use OE. I use Eudora.
Anyway - How can I get rid of MS's yellow update shield? That invariably keeps popping up and notifying me there are updates to install. I don't want to get rid of it altogether, but I want to get the OE update off of it. I know if I install the OE update, the shield will go away and quit being a nuisance. But now I'm adding unnescessary MB's to my system.
If I'm only using Firefox, do I still need to update IE?
This is getting a bit cornfusing.
Thanks all.

Chip;
Allow the updates and get it over with. IE is intertwined with the OS. Someday you may need to use OE if Eudora crashes and dies. Get the updates, reboot and don't worry, be happy.
