DVD Won't Play

Post by Roy Thomson »

I had a friend transfer some VCR video to
DVD.
It will not play for me however. Would this have anything to do with the writing speed he used? ( 32 )
The opening page comes on the monitor compliments of Real Player but when I clic play nothing happen and I am not prompted to
get an update?
My OS is W2000.
I have Windows Media Version 9 ,,,he says his
is Version 10 and may be my problem.
Any suggestion?

just started trying to put VHS tapes on DVDs with a recorder I recently bought. I'm using DVD+R blanks and they have to be "finalized" after being recorded before they will play on machines other than the one they were recorded on. The manual says if one were to use DVD+RWs they do not have to be finalized. Not very far into the learning curve yet, but success after the 3rd try!

I spent years in customer support and the first question we always asked was..is it plugged in.

So, my first question: are you sure you have a DVD player in your computer? Can you play other DVD's on it?

Bill,,you made my day.

I am plugged in.
I have a DVD player.
Yes commercial DVD's play
automatically along with others
that were homemade and sent to
me by friends.

Real Player opens and shows the
entitlement page but nothing happens
when I clic "Play"
Windows Media does the same but
tells me I am missing an extension.

In the case of CD's ,,,, some will not
play on old players unless they are
burned at 4X or 8X

I noted this DVD was burned at 32X
Are there lower burning rates for DVD?
Maybe that is the problem?

Thanks for your time and attempts to
help.

Roy

RealPlayer can be problematic. I wouldn't use RealPlayer as my media player or as my DVD player (actually I do not have RealPlayer or Quicktime on my PC as both can cause many problems).

Try it with Windows Media Player 10, as that will play DVD's.

However, it may not be in a format that your PC will recognize - not the type of DVD media or the burn speed (which is not an issue in PC drives).
