My computer is barely working right now. It kept stopping while surfing and then I would get blue screen errors and finally a DOS prompt stating I was dangerously low on resourses. I restarted my computer, discarded all temp files and cookies. Scanned my computer with Spysweeper and PCRescue and found nothing. Did the quick windows scan and was told I had a long file name that could not be fixed unless I run a complete scan. I did and the computer starts up properly but is still slow. Anyone know where I can find this erroneous file so I can discard it? Or anyone know why my "resourses" would be low and how to remedy it? TIA

Erik;
Which version of Windows are you running on that computer? We cannot assist you competently without knowing the OS.

Thank you for the response, Wiz. I am running Win98se. It seems I have sorted out my issues. My computer ran better after the complete scan last night even though it ended with a dos error message (lol). Tonight I just tried to defrag and got a message of error on disk. Ran a standard scan and pop-up said damaged Cookies file. I hit "repair" and the rest went fine. Just finished a defrag where I had gaping holes from large files downloaded and deleted and am hopefully good for another few months. This computer amazes me how it just keeps going. Just wonder why my PCRescue didn't detect any bad files.

Erik;
I'm glad that you have resolved this problem by using Scandisk and Disk Defragmenter, two tools that were provided for you by Microsoft. I have long been an advocate for learning to use everything in your arsenal to repair your computer by yourself. In fact, I have pages on my website that specifically deal with Scandisk and Disk Defragmenter issues, commands and options. Check them out for your future reference.
