I got my first Paypal warning notice

I have my info saved in a Paypal account though I lost my password last year. It is not a real account just for paying on auctions. Anyways, I got a notice in my box sating someone is trying to gain access to my account. I assume this is a scam. Here are some of the headers:

I was getting several of these a day for a while. Always a scam.

207.44.204.40 is from a person using the EveryonesInternet.com services, based in Houston, Tx. Definitely a scam. Please forward it to spoof@paypal.com

If you receive ANY email that mentions an account such as Pay Pal, your bank, your credit union, etc. that instructs you to click on an email address that is included in the email, you can be 99% certain it is a scam. The email address they give you will LOOK legitimate, but DOES NOT TAKE YOU TO THE REAL COMPANY'S COMPUTER. If you feel you MUST respond, respond to the company's regular email address -- NOT BY CLICKING ON "Reply."

ALSO no legitimate company will ever ask you to confirm your account number, password, or other such item; the real company already has that information on file.

Keep on the alert; hundreds of such scams are out there.

Thanks for the the confirmation and advice. Unfortunately, now that I have common email addresses (yahoo, gmail), I now get a ton of unwanted mail. I never got any when I had an obscure internet provider.

Guys & Gals, please, please, please, never open anything, form anyone unless your dang sure you know who it is. My wife opened an email regarding some sort of shopping crap, they got all here pertinent info and put us about $2000.00 in debt. These people prey on our weaknesses, interests, and before you know it "bam" they got you. I had to explain to my wife not everyone out there is honest, and that these scam artists, will get you before you blink. Just passing info on from personall experience.

yea i got an e-mail from my credit card bank.said there was charges from several areas and wanted me to open this e-mail address as if it was my card co. i called my credit card co. first and they said it was a scam .they will never e-mail you they will call you and ask you about the charges,they will tell you the amt and where.you should never give info freely.if they call and it dosen't seem right tell them you will call them back and you locate the ph.# not them give you a # to call.its a darn shame this world is so full of people like that.

I got one from PayPal, i don't have a pay pal account, and have NEVER paid for anything that way. I got one from Barnes and Nobel, same deal...and i never had an account...

Just forward them to: spoof@paypal.com or spoof@ebay.com they will let you know if it's legit or not. (Plus turn it over to the proper authorities, if not).

Also, there will always be a copy of any email sent by them in your messages folder after you log in your usual way.

The newest one I have seen is a question from a member about your auction. The subject says support@ebay.com. In order to respond to the question you must first sign in. That is a no no

If a financial institution contacts you by EMAIL , such as PAYPAL,
they will address you by your name..

IF the message does not begin with..
Dear xxx xxx

it is a scam
