Help with installing a program

Post by Joe Law »

Windows XP Professional. I have been trying to install a card program and just can't seem to get past the setup screen. When I try to install going through the My Computer icon to the drive as I have always done and clicking the setup icon I am stopped with the message"_is6D.tmp " has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvience. Each time I try, the number as 6D will be something different never the same.
I have been in touch with Sierra who makes the program and have done all their fixes which mostly involve starting in Safe mode but to no avail, all the same. Any suggestions for any of you fellows in the know will be greatly appreciated.Never had this problem with any other installation.
Thanks for your time reading this.

What is the actual program, and is it a Windows XP compatible program?

Some installation CD's that have copy protection on them will abort or fail during installation if it detects CD burning software. "The Sims" is famous for that. Usually if you temporarily uninstall the CD burning program's "UDF formatting" (packet writing) program, the programs will install. UDF programs are Roxio's "Direct CD" and in later editions "Drag to Disc", Nero's "InCD" and Sonic's "DLA". Uninstall the UDF program, restart Windows and then try the install.

Thanks for the reply,Jack.
This is just a Hallmark Studio 2004 Program. It lists all windows operating systems including XP as compatabile. I have installed it on Windows Me and another XP system but for love nor money will it install on my system. These other computers have the latest edition of Roxio on them for disk burning. I just haven't run into this before.

Sound's like maybe it's trying to create an install file on the CD, which will show to be write protected, or read only. These setup files weren't copied from a hard drive, or other media to a CD, were they?

You might try copying all the files from the CD to a temporary directory on the hard drive, and then running the setup file from there.

Just a thought,

Les

I do not know if this applies, but you might check it out.

Do you have a firewall or antivirus running while you try to install. If so disable them, try installing, then enable the firewall and antivirus.

This happened to me and was the main culprit in installing new programs.

You may need to be running as admin to install the program. If you are using a limited user account, or even power user you may not have sufficient privilges to install the program on XP Pro. If this is the case, try running the setup file using "Run As" > Administrator + password.

Thanks to each of you for taking time to respond. I tried each suggestion but have yet to get it to install.Get this same error message each time even after using your suggestion Wiz.
The closest I came to installing was with Les suggestion of copying files to my harddrive, then trying to install from there. I can get it to go through all the installation preliminaries down to naming the directory and the ULA,then to briging up the screen where a program would normally download the files, then it seems to start downloading(see a little action from the harddrive, blinkling LED) then after a short time this stops and program locks. I have to use Control-alt-delete to get out because the
Close Program(X) in upper left corner of screen is grayed out. Baffling
