HTML query

Post by mickd »

ANy HTML experts , please take a look at this simple test page , and then do 'view source'.

What I want to know is
1) is there anything in there that can be removed without disabling the hide/show function ?
2) is there a simpler way of doing this ?

3) In Firefox 1.5 (with default security settings) the test page works fine.
With IE 6, it also works but only after you get a security warning about active content.
Which security setting in IE would the user have to change to avoid getting this challenge (I've tried all the obvious ones with no luck) ?
Thanks
Mick

This is a pretty simple, straight forward way to accomplish this.

As far as IE goes, all you need to do is click allow active content on the warning to enable the javascript for this page.

Try enabling active scripting in the security tab under "custom settings"

John
thanks for the feedback.
Your suggestion re point (3) worked Image

The IE security panel setting suggests that by default it will only block content not marked as 'safe'. That sounds weird. What's to stop anyone marking malicious content as 'safe' , and why should anyone trust that marking ?

I tried it in IE6 and it worked fine, and I did not get any active content warning. I do get those warnings when testing pages offline though, because Internet Explorer is running in the My Computer Zone while offline.

The code looks good to me, but yields 3 validation warnings in Firefox. You are using invalid values for the two IDs; numbers only. IDs must begin with at least one letter, not a number. Try changing the IDs to something like c1 and c2 (change 1 or change 2). You are also missing the DOCTYPE declaration. Aside from that it is valid HTML (if you add the DOCTYPE) and Javascript.
