How do you stop Windows 2000 from loading certain programs into my icon tray (in the lower right of my screen)? It seems every program you get these days insists on putting itself down there, where it chews up RAM. Please advise.
Thanks,
Jim

Most programs have a user setup option to put a "quickstart" or "try" icon. Some, if you just Right click the icon will give you an option, others are in the user options/setup within the program and some even give you that option when you install the program.
There are others that you can disable at startup in the MSCONFIG panel and others that are in the "Startup" folder. Finally, there are those that don't give you an option - and what I consider "ill behaving" programs and usually those I uninstall and don't use.

Jim, since MSCONFIG isn't normally part of Windows 2000, You can use the MSCONFIG from WinXP and install it on a Win 2000 machine. The XP kernel came from 2000.
If you do a Google search for "MSCONFIG for Windows 2000", you'll get lots of instruction on this and a link to download it from somewhere reliable. Then you just install it and run it.
