I just purchased a Zoom MRS 1608 digital recorder, In reading the manual it says that you can create backup disks for the project that you are working on. My question is that I have a friend that has the same kind of recorder, isnt it concieveable that I could start a project with say bass, drums and guitar, back it up on disk and hand it off to my friend, he could boot his machine up with my disk and finish up with vocals ect. Or might there be some kind of write protect on a data disk that would prevent using it between two machines. I am new to all this digital stuff but maybe with a little time i might be able to catch up

You could save each track from any recorder as a "wav" file, burn each wav file to CD. They could then be used by most any recording program. You would have to "sync" them in time on separate tracks in the recording program.
