Convert Band in a box files to Power Tracks

Post by Bill Erb »

Could someone explain how to convert band in a box files so that Power tracks can play them? Power tracks will open a midi song but not a band in a box song. Thanks for your help.

I may have just found the answer to my question. I tried copying the band in a box song to the clipboard and I was able to get it on power tracks and play the song. Am I on the right track here?

In BIAB there's a command in the "File" menu to save it as MIDI. The name of the command is different in different versions, maybe "Generate MIDI" or "Save As MIDI File". Use that, and then you can open the MIDI file in Power Tracks Pro.

Your on the right track Bill. When you click on ".mid" you can also click on "MIDI file type" down arrow and select put drums on separate tracks. It makes it much easier to control drum volumes/setting that way. Jim

I have some BIAB files that I cannot play at all, as they are SGU files.
Is there any way that I can convert these files to play on Windows Media Player?

Richard,
You have to either render the SGU file as a WAV file or you have to export it as a midi file.
FYI, the SGU, MGU, MGX are all file extensions that only BIAB will be able to play.
If you go to my web site you can see how all this is done as there are plenty of help files up there. www.gwixon.com

While we're on the subject of BIAB, I'd like to be able to take a song and change the style to some different style(s)during the song itself. Let's say starting with a rock shuffle the first time thru, then changing to a blues shuffle and having the third time thru switch to a heavy rock style.

I have yet to find how to do this. Switching a to b parts does't switch to a whole new style, nor does an alais work.

Any suggestions?

In the settings for the current bar you can change the style. Watch out, though, as some styles are a lot louder than others.

Ken,
That's simple to do. I thought I put that on my site but must have over looked it.
First unfold the song into one big chorus. Do this by clicking on "Edit" and about 3/4 of the way down click on "Unfold (Convert to 1 BIG chorus).
Next put your cursor on the measure where you want to make your style change. Then click on "Edit" and down near the bottom click on "Settings for current bar" and a window will pop up and to the right top portion of that window you can change the style. When you close that window you will see a red square around the number of the measure indicating that there is a change in something at that measure. What will happen when you play the file is that it will start off with the style you chose to begin with and then when it gets to the measure that you changed the style to, the song will play in that style. The style you select will keep playing until you select another style. So if I wanted to change the style at measure #9, I would put my cursor on measure 9 and do the above and then if I wanted to change it back or to another style at measure 19, I would move my cursor to 19 and do the same thing.
I'll include this on my site and it should be there by tomorrow night.
George

Thanks George. That seems to be the ticket. I did look at your site a couple of times and didn't find what you just told me.

I could have been looking in the wrong place. I'll apply this to the song I'm working on. If I have problems I'll know where to go. Thanks again.
