Just received a Dell Optiplex sx260 that was used in a Winn-Dixie grocery store that closed.
When I turn it on, it, of course, is asking for the Windows XP password and I was wondering is there a way to bypass this so I can either load my own OS on it or so I can just use it with the XP that's on there?
I know this question kinda defeats the purpose of having a password in the first place, but I would like to put this unit to use.
Thanks in advance,
B

There are boot disks that will allow you to reset the passwords. They work great, but I have yet to find one that is user friendly, so I don't recommend this for most users. But if you're up to the challenge, check out http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

I'm not 100% sure on this but give it a try. (The reason I say "not sure" is because some experts didn't believe that it worked.)
I had a similar problem some time ago having forgotten the password. I think from memory I could get into it in safe mode on start up and then access administrator rights to reset the password for the users with passwords on the system.
In fact I started a post trying to get help on this very subject and you can find it here
[This message was edited by Pat Kelly on 14 January 2006 at 12:10 PM.]

[This message was edited by Pat Kelly on 14 January 2006 at 12:26 PM.]

[This message was edited by Pat Kelly on 14 January 2006 at 12:30 PM.]
