Since I've seen requests for free or inexpensive recording softwares quite often in here, I figured I should make you aware of this one I just discovered.
I have no idea how well it works, and at the moment it doesn't support MIDI but it will be implemented later. Perhaps it's worth checking out,- you can download it here: http://www.cockos.com/reaper/index.php
